Who Serena is
Serena is the female lead character from Pokémon X and Y and, with that, the face of the Kalos region. If you didn't pick her as your player character, you met her as a rival. In Incandescent Arcana she finally got her own Supporter card, and the Pokémon Center built an entire series around it.
What a playmat is for
A playmat gives your play area a fixed layout and keeps your cards off the table: no moisture, no crumbs, no edges scraping against wood. The rubber bottom stays put wherever you lay it, and the fabric top lets you pick up your cards without having to pick at them. At tournaments, bringing your own mat is standard practice.
Why this mat is scarce
The series was in Japanese Pokémon Centers in September 2022 and hasn't been restocked since. Playmats are also the kind of item that actually gets used: an unopened example is a lot rarer years later than the print run would suggest.
