What a deckbox is for

A deck of sixty sleeved cards held together with an elastic band is a deck that sooner or later ends up on the floor. A deckbox keeps it together, protects the edges and fits in a bag. Japanese deckboxes are more compact than western ones because they're sized for the slightly smaller Japanese cards — western cards in double sleeves make for a tight fit.

About the September 2022 series

That month, the Pokémon Center released an entire series of designs at once, each with its own sleeves and deckbox: alongside Gift of the Forest, these included Latias & Latios, Serena, Alolan Vulpix and Radiant Jirachi. They hit Japanese stores on September 2, 2022, and haven't been restocked since.

Why a Japanese deckbox

Japanese deckboxes are a bit smaller than western ones because Japanese cards are too. For a Japanese deck they therefore fit tighter and more securely; if you want to put western cards in double sleeves in them, keep in mind that it'll be a tight fit.
