What status markers are for
The card game has five special conditions. You show Asleep, Paralyzed and Confused by turning the card. That doesn't work for Poisoned and Burned, because those two can apply at the same time — that's why you place a marker on the card for them. At the end of each turn you still know exactly how much damage to remove.
Why these cost more
The regular markers are made of cardboard or plastic. These are made of metal and come from the most expensive box Pokémon makes: the $119.99 Ultra-Premium Collection with sixteen boosters, three etched Charizard promo cards, a playmat and 65 sleeves. Three parts from that box are sold separately here: besides these markers, also the 65 sleeves and the gold Gigantamax Charizard coin.
