Why Japanese sleeves are different

A Japanese pack contains 64 sleeves, not 65. That's because a Japanese deck has 60 cards, leaving exactly four spare for prize cards or replacements. Japanese sleeves are also cut a fraction tighter than Western ones, which makes them nice to use as an inner sleeve under a second layer — but if you want to use them as your outer sleeve at a tournament, pick one brand for your whole deck, so the backs can't be told apart.

What TRAINERS Salon!! is

TRAINERS Salon!! puts not the Pokémon but the trainers front and center: the familiar faces from the games, pictured together as if they'd run into each other in the same room. That never happens in the games themselves, since they all come from a different region and a different year — which is exactly why this is one of the Pokémon Center's most requested designs.

What a Pokémon Center design is

Alongside the accessories that go with a card set, the Pokémon Center in Japan also releases its own designs: a theme running across a handful of products, in a small print run and usually for just one season. Webshops often file them under a set name, but that's a shelf, not an origin.
