Why 6 mm makes the difference
Acrylic cases are usually made in 5 or 8 mm. At 5 mm there is too little material to recess a magnet without the acrylic cracking; at 8 mm the case becomes heavy and expensive. At 6 mm magnets do fit, and that matters: the case closes and stays closed, without screws, without a clip and without a seam that lets dust in.
Why “virgin acrylic” matters
Cheap acrylic is often recycled material. You can hardly tell on a new case, but after a year or two in the light it yellows and turns dull — exactly what you don’t want for something you keep a sealed box in. Virgin acrylic is unused material, and with a UV resistance of 83 percent this case blocks most of the sunlight.
