How Cardfight!! Vanguard works
You play a vanguard, your main unit, which rides during the game: you place a stronger unit on top of the previous one and grow step by step toward your final form. There's no mana or resource — what you can play depends on how far you've climbed.
Why taking damage isn't only bad
You lose at six damage, but every time you're hit you flip the top card of your deck. If it has a trigger on it, you immediately get power, an extra card, or healing. Taking damage gives you resources, which is why games often swing at the last moment.
Why a box and not loose packs
A whole box gives you enough to actually build a deck instead of collecting single cards, and you keep enough doubles to trade with. The number of packs per box isn't stated on purpose; that couldn't be confirmed for this release.
