RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg is a cooperative campaign board game for 1 to 5 players, developed by Steamforged Games in collaboration with Jagex. The game brings the world of Gielinor to life at the table and combines classic RuneScape humor with strategic challenge.
Setup and mechanics
The game is built around four narrative campaigns, inspired by iconic RuneScape quests: Vampyre Slayer, Demon Slayer, Dragon Slayer, and an original mission called Flame Slayer. Each campaign consists of two phases:
Exploration phase: Players explore the game board, shown from a top-down view of Asgarnia and Misthalin. During this phase, they gather resources, train skills, complete side missions, and prepare for the fight with a boss.
Boss phase: On a separate combat board, players face off against well-known bosses such as Count Draynor, Delrith, and Elvarg. Teamwork and strategic use of skills and equipment are essential to win.
The game has no fixed classes; players can freely develop their characters by training skills and crafting equipment. Health is shared within the team, which makes teamwork and planning extra important.
Theme and atmosphere
The game's atmosphere reflects the distinctive RuneScape universe. Familiar characters and comedic elements return in quests, items, and events. The visual style is colorful and cartoonish, with recognizable elements from the game.
