Why a sleeve and a holder
Grading companies want the card in a soft sleeve, with a semi-rigid holder around it. The sleeve protects the surface, the holder keeps the corners straight during shipping. The pull-tab on the Easy Pull sleeves is there so you can get the card in and out without touching the edge.
Made for submission, not for the long haul
The semi-rigid holders are made of clear PVC. Ultra Pro states that the combination with the sleeves is archival safe — but common practice is to use this as a temporary home for a card: for submission, for shipping, or until the grading comes back. For long-term storage, PVC-free sleeves and a toploader or magnetic holder are the better choice.
