What a Pokémon coin is for
In the Pokémon Trading Card Game, many attacks and Trainer cards have effects that only happen if you flip heads. That's what a coin is for, and one comes standard in every theme deck, every collection, and every blister pack. Officially licensed coins are tournament legal; a regular coin from your pocket isn't.
About Battle Academy 2024
Battle Academy 2024 came out on June 21, 2024 and is the box you use to teach someone the card game. It includes three ready-to-play decks — built around Pikachu ex, Armarouge ex, and Darkrai ex — plus a game board for two players, rulebooks, status markers, and this large coin. The two beginner decks have numbered cards that follow along with the booklet; the Darkrai deck goes with the more advanced rulebook.
Why a large coin
An XL coin doesn't roll as far, is easier to read on the table, and that makes it more pleasant when two of you are learning to play at the kitchen table. At tournaments players generally use the regular size, but at home the large one is preferred — and as a collectible it simply stands out more.
