Casting Cost: {2}{R}
Card Type: Enchantment - Saga
Card Text:
(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice after III.)
I - Amass Orcs 1. (Put a +1/+1 counter on an Army you control. It's also an Orc. If you don't control an Army, create a 0/0 black Orc Army creature token first.)
II - Amass Orcs 2. Creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain menace until end of turn.
III - Creatures you control get +1/+0 and gain menace until end of turn.
Artist: Randy Gallegos

Card Strengths and Weaknesses:

  • Token Generation: This card allows you to create a board presence with its first lore counter, amassing Orcs.

  • Board Buff: With the second and third lore counters, the card acts as a temporary mass pump spell, giving all your creatures +1/+0 and menace.

  • Flexibility: The ability to amass Orcs gives you the option to either grow an existing Army token or to create a new one.

  • Lack of Immediate Impact: The enchantment doesn't do anything the turn it comes into play and needs to survive until your next turn to start generating value.

Deck Utility:

  • Aggro Decks: Well-suited for aggressive strategies, especially those that utilize Orc or Army synergies.

  • Go-Wide Strategies: This Saga helps in strategies that aim to flood the board with creatures, then use mass pump effects for a lethal attack.

  • Tribal Decks: Fits well in Orc tribal decks, taking advantage of Orc synergies.

Overall Analysis:

The Book of Mazarbul is a utility Saga that offers a lot for a relatively low cost. It contributes to board development, provides a temporary but significant power boost, and even grants an evasive ability. While it doesn't provide any immediate value upon entering the battlefield, its later stages more than make up for it, especially in decks built to capitalize on its strengths. A solid addition to aggro and tribal decks looking for a way to build up an imposing board state.
